What is a Mini Split?

A mini split, also known as a ductless unit, is exactly what the name entails; it is the small version of a central AC/Heating unit without the air ducts that a large system requires. Unlike the split system (central air which requires a furnace, a condenser and coil) the mini split heat pump condenser (which produces heat and cool air) and an air handler(s) (the indoor unit that distributes the air throughout the room and/or house). The mini split is perfectly design to control temperature in individual rooms and controlled by a remote or through a phone app, if you have chosen the WIFI feature.

How Can a Mini Split be convenient for me?

The ductless/ mini split system is convenient for homes which only want to cool/heat a certain area of the house, do not have the space for ducts running through the house, or just want a simple, hassle free and economical AC/Heating unit in the home. Aside from comfort, going the ductless way will also benefit your wallet. According to Energy Star rated systems, the “ENERGY STAR certified ductless mini-split heat pumps use 60% less energy than standard home electric resistance-based heating systems” and is “Cutting cooling costs by 30% compared to conventional room air conditioners. Why Choose a Mini Split ductless ?

It is sometimes difficult to decide, or even know, what can be the perfect climate control system in your home. How do you establish the size of the unit needed? When it comes to a mini split, the answers are much simpler. One main point to focus on is the square footage of the room that you are trying to cool/heat. Because being informed is the best way to approach this dilemma, the following chart will help you get an idea of what size you will need:

Room Size (in Square Ft.) Size of Mini Split (in BTU’s)

300 sq. ft 6,000 BTU

500 sq. ft 9,000 BTU

650 sq. ft. 12,000 BTU

800 sq. ft 15,000 BTU

1,000 sq. ft. 18,000 BTU

1,300 sq. ft 24,000 BTU

1,650 sq. ft 30,000 BTU

2,000 sq. ft 36,000 BTU

2,300 sq. ft 42,000 BTU

2,650 sq. ft 48,000 BTU

3,100 sq. ft 56,000 BTU

The mini split is also very convenient when it comes to room temperature control; each room in the house can have an air handler controlled by a remote to have your own personalized comfort. Its multi-zone unit is suitable if you are trying to cool more than one room (multi zone consist of one outside condenser connecting to 2 or more indoor units). Furthermore, you can also choose to upgrade to the WIFI feature, which allows you to control the AC/Heating system through an app on your phone. So whether you are away or at home, you have the power to control your temperature comfort through a click of a button.
